How to add a step symbol to Microsoft Power Point

degree symbol

You will not find ° (degree symbol) on your keyboard. Insert a step symbol into Microsoft PowerPoint in two ways, both of which are detailed below.

degree symbol

Insert a step symbol using the PowerPoint ribbon

  1. Select the text box on the slider where you want to place the step symbol.
  2. On the ” Insert ” tab select “Symbol”  In some versions of PowerPoint, this option appears on the right hand side of the menu.
  3. In the window that opens, make sure the “Font:” (plain text) menu is selected ,  which in another menu – ” Superscripts and Subscripts” .
  4. At the bottom of this window, next to “from” select, ASCII (decimal) .
  5. Scroll until you get a step signal.
  6. Click on the ” Insert” below.
  7. Click ” Close”, close the ” Symbol ” and return to the PowerPoint document.

PowerPoint will probably not prompt you to confirm that you have completed Step 6.. After the ” Insert” if you want to make sure the degree mark has actually been inserted, move the dialog to the side or close it to check.

Enter a step symbol using a keyboard shortcut

Keyboard shortcuts are more powerful, especially when entering characters like this one, where you would have to scroll through a list of dozens of other characters to find the right one.

In fact, this method does not work no matter where you are, including in email, web browser, etc.

Use your standard keyboard to enter a step symbol

  1. Choose exactly where you want the step sign to go.
  2. Use the power character hotkey to enter a character: Alt + 0176 .
    That is, hold down the Alt key , and then use the keyboard enter 0176  After entering numbers, you can release the Alt key to see the [°] step symbol.
    If this step does not work, make sure that the keyboard does not work the keyboard is not locked (i.e enable num locking). If enabled, the keyboard will not accept numeric values. You cannot insert a degree symbol using the top row of numbers.

Without numeric pad

Each Fn laptop keyboard has a function key It is used to access additional features that are not normally available due to the smaller number of keys on a standard laptop keyboard.

If you do not have a keyboard on your keyboard, but have function keys, try this:

  1. Hold the Alt and Fn keys together.
  2. Find the keys corresponding to the function keys (same colors as the Fn keys).
  3. As above, press the keys showing 0176, then release the Alt and Fn keys to enter the step symbol.

Degree Symbol

When writing scientific or highly specialized texts, special values are needed, as well as other non-standard signs. It can be scientific articles, courses or other data where you need to know how to put a mark in Word or a similar symbol.

How to insert special characters in Word – in our new article

Many beginners, when trying to establish non-standard designations, are looking for them on the Internet to copy. This method is quite time consuming, as you must perform a similar procedure for each character. Also, not everyone knows the brand name like diameter.

Degree Symbol

Easier Method

There are several common methods that are suitable for a comprehensive solution for all designations, and each one individually. To work with special characters, the Windows operating system provides a special table that allows you to place these indicators directly in the document. In this way, you can insert a paragraph, diameter, degrees, tick and others.

It’s on the “Insert” toolbar. You need to click on the “Symbols” icon and then select the additional “Other” menu. Before the user opens a window with a large set of all possible values. They can be selected and inserted at the established position in the document. For your convenience, there are selection criteria, such as “Mathematics”, “Latin” and “Logic”, to facilitate the search for the required brand.

Use the “Insert” panel and find the “Character” command there.

The arrow can be entered in the same way. It comes in various versions in the stock panel. If a non-standard or elongated view is required, the “Insert” parameter provides a “Shapes” window, from where the arrow can be taken to work in any length and various graphic versions.

Hot keys

This method is best suited for those who should have regular access to symbols, such as diameter or paragraph. It does not require the installation of additional programs, you only need to press a combination of keys. You must first hold down the Alt button on the keyboard and then dial a number combination on the primary or secondary keyboard.

To set the diameter, you need to enter the numbers 0216. When the user presses Alt, the entered data will change to the desired value. This sign is useful when creating drawings, documents for layout, as well as promotional products. The diameter is in the shape of a crossed out letter “o”.

The paragraph is made in the form of two letters “s”. Previously, it was a required attribute on typewriters, but today the paragraph is used in automatic mode or with special insertion. Using a similar method with the Alt button pressed, you should enter 0167. The combination will become a paragraph. In the same way, you can insert degrees Celsius, which is placed in the combination 0186 or 0176.

Other forms

Degree can also be put into hexadecimal code. To do this, instead of the required character, you must dial 00BA. This special designation changes to a sign after pressing the Alt + X combination. There is a “superscript” icon on the main page. After pressing the cursor, it will move to the upper position of the entered value. Just press the letter “o” or the number “0” to accept the value of the degree.

In this way, special characters such as diameter, paragraph, and others are inserted when writing text files. The choice of method depends on personal preference and convenience. Over time, this happens automatically, so it only takes a little practice with either method.

It is not uncommon when working with text documents, it is necessary to put some type of non-standard character or that is not on the keyboard. For example, the degree sign is used very often, but it is not on the keyboard. In this article, we will talk about how to place a degree sign with and without using the keyboard.

Method number 1. Alt + 248 key combination.

If you need to put a degree sign with the keyboard, perhaps the fastest and easiest way is to use the key combination Alt + 248. To use this key combination, place the cursor at the place in the text where there should be a degree sign . After that, hold down the Alt key on the keyboard and without releasing the Alt key, type the number 248 in the additional key block (on the right side of the keyboard, under Num Lock).

As a result, where the cursor was placed, a degree sign will appear. This key combination works in any program.

Method number 2. Alt + 0176 key combination.

There is also an Alt + 0176 key combination. It works the same way as in the previous method. You need to put the cursor where you need to put a degree sign, hold down the Alt key and don’t release, type 0176 on the additional keyboard.

celsius degree

After that, a degree sign will appear at the selected location. This key combination, like the previous one, works in any program.

How to put a degree sign without keyboard

If you cannot remember the key combinations described above, it may be more convenient for you to insert the degree sign without using the keyboard. This can be done with the help of the “Symbol Table” program, which is available in any version of Windows.

To do this, you first need to open the “Symbol Table” program. For example, you can click Windows-R and in the window that appears run the command “charmap.exe”.

In the “Character table” you need to find the degree sign, select it with the mouse and click the “Select” button.

After that, you need to click the “Copy” button and paste the degree sign in the correct place in the document using the CTRL-V key combination or the Paste command.

Therefore, you can put a degree sign in any document and any program.

The degree symbol will be extremely necessary when entering measurements, such as temperature values. Alt + 0176 key combination or drop down menu will help to set degree in Word.

Celsius degrees using the ribbon menu

It is important to indicate with the cursor where the degree icon is needed. Then go to the “Insert” tab, click on “Symbol” and go to “Other symbols”. A window will open with different variations of icons and letters.

Now it is important to specify the “Source” and the “Set”. On the “Font” tab, select “Times New Roman”, and on the “Set” tab, find “Additional Latin 1”. When properly configured, a new symbol design will appear in the window, including the degree icon. Select the temperature symbol and click the “Insert” button. Everything worked out!

How to write t with button degree combination?

To perform such manipulation with the keys under everyone’s power, you just need to remember the signal code. We write the text and stop at the place where it is necessary to indicate t with the degree sign. Next, we find the Alt button on the keyboard and press it, and now the main thing to remember is the character code and we type it. We remind you if someone forgot – 0176.

degree symbol

Note: you must dial the numbers on the additional numeric keypad shown in the following screenshot.

The image below shows how to find the character code “Celsius” to easily and quickly print the temperature signal in the future. First, put your cursor in the right place, type in the code for the icon, and hold down the Alt + x key combination (x – on the English keyboard layout) and you’re done.

And also when you use the icon for the first time, then it appears in the popup window to find and insert it quickly.

Is it possible to write a degree in letters or numbers?

The main Word layout in the “Home” section is a superscript icon, with which you can write a temperature sign above the reference line of all text. We look at the image and repeat it. Place the pointer in the right place, open the “Start” tab, find the “Superscript character” and press (light yellow), and then type the letter “O” or the number “0”. Who likes it more!

A typographic symbol in the form of a superscript circle, generally denoted as the dimension of angles and temperatures measured in degrees   , absent from the computer keyboard. However, it is in the encoding tables that the operating system uses to summarize the characters on the computer screen. He is among the first 128. marks   this table that allows him to use it even in the documents of the most primitive text formats, eg txt.

Instruction

1.   Use code 0176 to insert the degree icon in text documents. To do this, press the alt key and, without releasing it, type this code on the numeric keypad (optional). As you enter the code, nothing will change on the screen, and when you finish and release the alt key, the ° icon will appear at the location indicated by the input cursor.

2.   Start the Windows Character Map component, as an alternative to the insertion method for this symbol described above. You can do this, for example, by pressing the win + r key combination, typing the charmap command, and clicking the Enter key. In the symbol table of the window that opens, find the degree icon, double-click it, and click the “Copy” button. After that, switch to the edited document window and paste the copied symbol (ctrl + v).

3.   Use the key combination opt + shift + 8 if the operating system you are using belongs to the Mac OS family. It is this hotkey combination that you are assigned to insert a grade icon into documents.

4.   Paste hexadecimal code 00B0 (B – English letter), if you are working with documents in a Microsoft Office Word word processor. This code corresponds to the degree designation in the Unicode table, and Word can work with such symbol designations. After placing the input cursor at the place in the text where the degree sign should be, type this code and then press the alt + x key combination and the word processor will remove all four characters from the text, placing a single ° symbol .

5.   Use html character primitives if the degree sign must be placed in a hypertext document. To display this sign in the text of a web page, it is allowed to place a sequence of ° or ° characters: they both form the same ° icon.

Note!
To type the ° symbol on the keyboard, you need to hold down the ALT key, and on the auxiliary keyboard, type 0176 and release the ALT key after that. To print other characters, such as © ®, etc. I need to know the key code. This is the keycode, now activate Num Lock and press ALT and then on the auxiliary keyboard, type 0163 and release ALT. It is finally allowed to invariably call up a character table and copy characters from there, but this is neither fun nor sporty.

Good advice
How to enter missing characters on the keyboard? Let’s assume a trivial situation: you need to enter a special character in some text, but there is no key on the keyboard with such a character. How to be If you are working in a Word text editor, then there are no drawbacks: choose the Insert menu – \ u003e Symbol Yes, thanks, I already stumbled … I really didn’t find out right away. While I am writing the text in Notepad, it is not very comfortable to go up there all the time, for my taste, let’s say, exposing the elements of the list, degrees, mathematical signs

What is a Fahrenheit Degree

fahrenheit degree

The Fahrenheit degree (° F) is a temperature unit proposed by Gabriel Fahrenheit in 1724. The Fahrenheit degree is not a unit of the International System of Units.

On the Fahrenheit scale, the temperature changes in the state of water are as follows:

  1. The melting point of water is 32 degrees F.
  2. The boiling point of water is 212 degrees F.

A difference of 1.8ºF is equivalent to that of 1 degree Celsius . Fahrenheit adjusted the temperature to zero (0 ° F), at the freezing point of a 50% mixture of salt (ammonium chloride) and ice, and at 96 ° F, he measured the temperature of the blood (used that of the horses)

Figure 96 may seem a strange measure, but, in principle, the scale contained only twelve equal subdivisions, he himself divided each division into eight more, finally obtaining 96 divisions on his scale.

The conversion formulas for degrees Celsius and kelvin are:

° F = ° C⋅ (9/5) +32
° C = (° F -32) ⋅ 5/9
° F = K ° (9/5) -459.67
k = (° F +459.67) ⋅ 5/9

IN WHICH COUNTRIES IS THE FAHRENHEIT SCALE USED?

The Fahrenheit scale is officially used in five countries:

  • Bahamas.
  • Belice.
  • Cayman Islands.
  • Palace.
  • USA.

In addition, this unit is also unofficially used by the older generation in the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Ireland, India and Jamaica. The reason is that this scale has also been used in these countries in the past. In other countries, the temperature is expressed in degrees Celsius , created 20 years later.

This scale is currently confined to Anglo-Saxon countries, especially the United States. The other Anglo-Saxon countries, however, are adapting to degrees Celsius, since since the 1960s, some governments have adopted policies with a tendency to adopt the International System and the use of ºF for temperature measurement has been replaced. .

The Fahrenheit scale, has absolute zero located at -459.67 ° F, to facilitate its scientific use, the Rankine scale was created. The Rankine scale raises 0 from the Fahrenheit scale to absolute zero, similar to what happens between the Kelvin scale and the Celsius scale .

WHO WAS DANIEL FAHRENHEIT?

Daniel Fahrenheit was a physicist, engineer and glassblower of Polish origin. He is the physicist responsible for creating the scale that bears his name to measure the temperature. He is also known for the invention of the alcohol thermometer (1709), mercury thermometer (1714) and the development of a scale to measure temperatures .

He is a pioneer of accurate thermometry, which helped lay the foundation for the era of precision thermometry, inventing the glass tube mercury thermometer and the Fahrenheit scale. Fahrenheit’s inventions marked the beginning of the first revolution in the history of thermometry. From the beginning of the 1710s until the beginning of the electronic age, glass and mercury thermometers were among the most reliable and accurate thermometers ever invented.

HOW WAS THE FAHRENHEIT DIPLOMA INVENTED?

Fahrenheit himself wrote in 1724 that, on his scale, 0º corresponded to the temperature of a mixture of ice, salt and water, while 100º was the body temperature of the human being. We can see that the temperature in these two environments is not completely accurate, so the Fahrenheit scale is considered quite arbitrary.

It is not known exactly how it was designed, as the German physicist and engineer kept his formulas a secret.

Fahrenheit was based on the Rømer scale, proposed by the Danish astronomer Ole Christensen Rømer in 1701. According to this scale, 0 ° was the freezing temperature of the brine and 60 ° the boiling point of the water. The problem was that other important points, such as body temperature, were converted into fractional numbers, which seemed quite inelegant to him. Fahrenheit decided to adjust the Rømer scale so that the water would freeze at 8º and the human body temperature would be 24º.

The first Fahrenheit thermometers used this scale, but at some point he decided to multiply the number of divisions by 4, giving rise to the current Fahrenheit scale, where the water freezing point is 32ºF and the body temperature is 96ºF. It is not clear why he did this, but the fact is that he agrees that a degree Fahrenheit increases the volume of mercury by exactly 0.01%.

WHO INVENTED THE THERMOMETER?

Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit is also responsible for the invention of the mercury thermometer. Fahrenheit knew that mercury was a better measuring liquid than alcohol used in other thermometers, as it boiled at a much higher temperature (357 ° C versus 78 ° C). His thermometers became the most reliable at the time and, for these achievements, he was formally accepted into the Royal Society of London.

Degree Celsius

degree celcius

The degree Celsius (symbol in ° C) is the unit of a temperature measurement scale , named after the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius (1701 – 1744), who first proposed it in 1742. The Celsius scale is a scale to indicate the temperature at which the temperature ranges are degrees Celsius.

The Celsius scale defines the melting point of ice in a mixture of water saturated with air at 0 ° C and the boiling point at 99.974 ° C under standard pressure conditions (1 bar, slightly less than the atmosphere, pressure to water) boils at 100 degrees Celsius).

Originally conceived by the Celsius scale, it had a boiling point of water at 0 ° C and a freezing point of 100 ° C. After his death, however, the scale was reversed in 1745 by Linnaeus, transforming it into what is now commonly used.

The current official definition of the Celsius scale places 0.01 ° C as a triple point of water and a degree as 1 / 273.16 of the temperature difference between the triple point of water and absolute zero. This definition of degrees Celsius ensures that the temperature difference of one degree Celsius represents the same temperature difference as a Kelvin.

CONVERSION OF DEGREES CELSIUS TO OTHER TEMPERATURE UNITS

Formulas for converting degrees Celsius to other temperature units.

  • Conversion of degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit at ° F = (9/5 × ° C) + 32
  • Conversion of degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius at ° C = (5/9) × (° F – 32)
  • Conversion of degrees Celsius to kelvin at K = ° C + 273.15
  • Conversion Kelvin to degrees Celsius ° K = – 273.15

Anders Celsius originally proposed that the water freezing point be 100 ° C and the boiling point 0 ° C. The ladder was reversed in 1745 at the suggestion of Linnaeus, or perhaps by Daniel Ekström, producer of most of the thermometers used by Celsius.

The Celsius and Fahrenheit thermometric scales cross at the same value of -40 degrees, that is, the value of -40 ° C corresponds to -40 ° F.

One way to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit is to multiply by 1.8 and add 32.

° F = ° C × 1,8 + 32

On the other hand, to convert Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius, subtract 32 and divide by 1.8.

° C = (° F – 32) / 1,8

The Celsius scale is used daily in most parts of the world, although in mass media it is still called centigrade until the 1990s, especially in weather forecasts. In the United States (as well as in non-corporate territories and freely associated states of the Pacific), in Belize, Liberia and some Caribbean islands, the Fahrenheit scale is used, but these countries also use the Celsius or Kelvin scale in Applications. scientific or technological.

Other temperature ranges are: Newton (around 1700), Rømer (1701), Fahrenheit (1724), Réaumur (1731), Delisle or de Lisle (1738), Rankine (1859), Kelvin (1862) and Leyden (by around 1894). Note that “kelvin” is tiny, because it is an SI unit, even though it is derived from the noble title of scientist William Thomson.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEGREES CELSIUS AND DEGREES CELSIUS?

Since there are a hundred divisions between these two landmarks, the original term for this system was either centigrade or centesimal. In 1948, the ninth General Conference of Animals (CR 64) officially changed its name to Celsius to remove several ambiguities:

  • the centi prefix is used by the SI system for submultiples;
  • a more correct name, at least since Linnaeus was invested, would have been “hectograd”;
  • the hectogram is also ambiguous and, in oenology, indicates the alcohol content per hectolitre of wine;
  • the term “degrees centigrade” was also used to indicate the hundredth degree used to measure angles;
  • Kelvin is also a degree centigrade, in that it is obtained, like Celsius, by dividing the interval between two fundamental fixed points in equal parts.

The decision of the Conférence générale des poids et mesures aimed to remove ambiguities and to unequivocally associate the creation of the scale with Celsius (despite Linnaeus’ important contribution); in addition, the scale was standardized with those of Kelvin (created by Lord Kelvin), Fahrenheit, Réaumur and Rankine , all named after their inventor.

Despite this, there are often people who refer to degrees centigrade as “degrees Celsius”, just as they use the centigrade concept scale.

WHY IS THE CELSIUS SCALE NOT CONSIDERED AN ABSOLUTE SCALE?

The existence of an absolute temperature scale is a consequence of the second principle of thermodynamics .

According to the second law, the absolute temperature scale starts from the existence of 0º absolute. This condition is met only by two basic units:

  • Degree of Kelvin
  • Grau Rankine.

Zero degrees Kelvin corresponds to -273.16 degrees Celsius.Author: Oriol Planas – Industrial Technical Engineer, specializing in mechanics

What is the degree of Celsius symbol

1. The temperature measurement unit of the Celsius temperature scale (C), represented by the symbol ℃, is one of the most widely used temperature scales in the world. Celsius is now included in the International System of Units (SI).

2. Basic definition: Celsius temperature has been included in the International System of Units. In physics, the Celsius temperature scale is expressed as t, and the absolute temperature scale (unit: Kelvin) is expressed as T, and the conversion relationship is t=T-273.15. Celsius is a special name that replaces Kelvin when expressing Celsius temperature, and 1K=1°C in value.

3. Both Fahrenheit and Celsius are used to measure temperature. Celsius is used by most countries in the world, including our country; Fahrenheit is used by only five remaining countries in the world, including the Bahamas, Belize, the British Cayman Islands, Palau, the United States of America and other dependent territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands).

How to type Celsius Symbol in word

Celsius is a temperature scale that is widely used in the world and is represented by the symbol “℃”. It was proposed by the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius in the 18th century. Celsius = (Fahrenheit-32) ÷ 1.8. Its freezing point is 0°C, and the boiling point of water at 1 standard atmosphere is 100°C. The current Celsius temperature has been included in the International System of Units, and the definition of Celsius temperature is t=TT.

How to put the degree sign (°) with the keyboard

Degree Symbol keyboard

The degrees symbol is used as a symbol to indicate temperature, to represent degrees of arcs and even to decrease the quality of musical harmony. It can be a very useful symbol in chemistry, physics, and other areas of study.

There are several ways to represent the ° symbol on our computer keyboard . It will also depend on what operating system we are using.

Write in Windows

With keyboard

There are some keyboards that already have the degree symbol predefined in one of the numbers above the letters or in the key below ESC. Although that yes, in many occasions, it does not work with simply pressing the Shift. Therefore, if it does not come out the first time, you will most likely need to press ALT GR and then the key in question.

With ALT + ASCII code

Another foolproof test that never fails is to use the ASCII code equivalent to the degree symbol. This not only applies for this one but for all the symbols that you can think of. Therefore, it is one of the most used options by most writers.

  1. First, press the ALT key.
  2. Now, you must write the code which is 0176 . Then, the combination would look like this: ” ALT + 0176 “
  3. After correctly performing the procedure, you will have the sign on your screen.

On a laptop or notebook

In some laptops it is possible to make the degree symbol with the same key combination as with a normal keyboard. Although, in some cases, it will be necessary to use the ASCII code. As you may have learned above, the code for the degree symbol is “0176”. With this you can work without worries.

Write to MAC

Just in case you haven’t taken them into account, the way to write the degree symbol in MAC is totally different from Windows. Although as in most cases you will have to make a combination of keys so that this symbol can appear.

  • Keyboard in Spanish: Although in all languages it is possible to use the combination of keys below, in some cases, the degree symbol is next to the number 1. Now with this, just press SHIFT and then , the key below ESC.
  • Keyboard in English: In English it is usually the same as in Spanish, although in certain cases it is only enough to press the key below ESC without using Shift. Similarly, the key combination can be used if this option cannot be used.
  • Key combination: It does not matter if it is an English or Spanish keyboard, to be able to write the degree symbol on a MAC laptop, you must combine the keys “Shift + option key + 8”.

Write in Linux

The way Linux works when writing some symbols can seem a bit chaotic. But, after a while, it will seem totally normal to you. Do you remember the ASCII codes? So, on Linux you will have to use this code, but converted to hexadecimal numbering.

  1. You must perform the following combination Ctrl + Shift + u + b0 . The latter is the hexadecimal code for the degree symbol. C

After performing this procedure, you will have your sign in the text

About the symbol

Remember, the degree symbol that we teach you to write here is the universal. That is, only this symbol will appear, with nothing else added to it, as may be the case with Linux, that there are other codes for the degree to come out next to C or F in terms of degrees of temperature.

How to Insert a Degree Symbol in Google Docs

Sometimes you need to add special characters to the document you are creating. It could be something like an arrow or marker, but in other situations something less common, such as a degree symbol, may be required.

Degree Symbols

Fortunately, Google Docs has the ability to insert various special characters, and one suggested option is the degree symbol.

Our guide below shows you how to add a degree symbol to Google Docs in a few short steps.

The steps above were done on the desktop version of the Google Chrome web browser, but will work on other desktop browsers like Firefox or Edge as well.

There is also a Windows keyboard shortcut for inserting a degree symbol. You can press Alt + 0176 to add a symbol. Note that you need to use the numbers on the numeric keypad on your keyboard. It won’t work if you are using a numeric string over letters.

values from the keyboard of a laptop and / or desktop computer. It is clear that the degree icon is somewhere, but how can you quickly put it when you need it?

A blitz inspection of the keyboard, of course, will do nothing, since the degree icon – ° – is usually not applied to the buttons by manufacturers (well, unless you yourself have ordered special keyboard stickers with the necessary symbols for your computer ).

In this regard, on how to insert a degree icon into the text (any).

So,..

§  INSTANT OPTION – FROM THE NUMERIC KEYPAD

In Windows OS, as you know, there are many superscript characters at once, but only the most popular of them are applied to the standard QWERTY-layout buttons (” asterisk “, for example, or quotes ). However, this does not mean that the rest cannot be inserted simply with a key. Can.

Only with the help of a separate digital code and through an additional numeric panel, which is found in most full-size computer keyboards (for desktop PCs) and even in some laptops (as a rule, with a screen diagonal of 15.6 ″ and larger).

And even smaller laptops have it, but using it to insert superscript icons is not so convenient, because if you have a laptop with a small keyboard, then it is easier to apply the second option (see below). Well, or still turn on the additional keyboard with the Num Lk button (it is usually in the top row) and dial the code from it (see the small numbers in the corners of the keys  7, 8, 9, Г, Ш, Щ, О, Л, Д and Ь ).

So, to quickly insert the degree icon into the text from the numeric keypad, hold down ALT, type 0 1 7 6 and release ALT (on a small laptop ->  Num Lk, then hold down ALT, press b О 7 Ш in turn, release ALT and turn off Num Lk ; LOOSH – these are the same 0176), and “degree” will immediately appear in the text.

§  OPTION SLOW – DEGREE ICON FROM MS WORD

And longer, and not so interesting, but nevertheless it also works. Just open Microsoft Word , click ” Insert ” in the top menu , then ” Symbol “, find and select the “degree” and press the ” Insert ” button from the bottom.

Here you can also assign a keyboard shortcut to which you can insert this symbol (or any other) into the text of the document in MS Word, if in the future you plan to use it often.

Degree Symbol in Latex

degree symbol

I want to be able to simply enter the degree symbol as ° in my source code. The German keyboard has a key that makes the source more readable. I’m using  pdfLaTeX    from TeXLive 2012, and this minimal reproduction example:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{textcomp}
\begin{document}
Degree symbol in plain text works: 90° is a right angle.
Degree in math won’t work: $\cos(90°) = 0$.
\end{document}

Compile this file and I get a message

Missing character: There is no in font cmr10!

Where there actually means that a single byte cannot form a valid UTF-8 sequence, so it cannot be printed correctly on my console.

I have a rough idea, all of them come from, but I don’t know anything about how to solve this problem. I want to make \textdegree symbols that can also work in math mode, or let the engine replace some different commands to replace my unicode code point. Ideally, the command will choose the correct form based on whether the current mode is a math mode, I do n’t know how to check (yet). For the final result, it would be nice if the symbols look the same in both text and math mode OK, so I might look for a solution that will switch to text mode to output the symbol.

But maybe there is an easier way to do it all. Maybe there is even a package. Searching through previous posts, I found that there is a package unicode-math , but this does not work for pdfLaTeX, and the switching engine does not seem to be most of my applications Reasonable requirements of the program.

1.The following code should work:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{textcomp}
\usepackage{gensymb}
\begin{document}
Degree symbol in plain text works: 90° is a right angle.
Degree in math now work: $\cos(90\degree) = 0$.
\end{document}

2. That’s why you have the siunitx package:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{textcomp}
\usepackage{siunitx}
\begin{document}
Degree symbol in plain text works: 90\si{\degree} (or \SI{90}{\degree}) is a right angle.
Degree in math would work: $\cos(90\si{\degree}) = 0$.
\end{document}
As cgnieder said, \ang it can also be used for this purpose:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{textcomp}
\usepackage{siunitx}
\begin{document}
Degree symbol in plain text works: \ang{90} is a right angle.
Degree in math would work: $\cos(\ang{90}) = 0$.
\end{document}

3. I used ^{\circ} to get the degree notation in math mode. It works every time. I encountered compatibility issues with some other code / package combinations.

4. If you do not need to textcomp pack, remove it and change the utf8 inputencselection to utf8x be useful to you, just for me.

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
%\usepackage{textcomp}
\begin{document}
Degree symbol in plain text works: 90° is a right angle.
Degree in math won’t work: $\cos(90°) = 0$.
\end{document}

5. I ended up using the gensymb answer from Papiro to get the \degree command, combining it with a line to tie it to ° a symbol inspired by comments to that answer:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{textcomp}
\usepackage{gensymb}
\DeclareUnicodeCharacter{00B0}{\degree}
\begin{document}
Degree symbol in plain text still works: 90° is a right angle.
Degree in math now works as well: $\cos(90°) = 0$.
\end{document}

How to insert degree symbol in macOS (OS X[)

A reader recently asked how to use a degree symbol on macOS (OS X). Fortunately, typing a degree symbol on your Mac on macOS is as easy as typing on your iOS phone, which allows you to properly express both math and increasingly unstable weather.

There are two ways to enter the degree symbol in macOS, and both of them are system level functions, which means that they will work in any application on your Mac at almost any time (with some exceptions for protected text input fields).

But don’t worry, all of the most common applications in which you want to enter a degree symbol are supported, including web browsers, MacOS messages, Skype, email clients, and even journal applications such as the popular Day One

Degree symbol from the special character menu

You can insert a degree character (among many other characters) using the special character menu, now called the Emoji & Symbols menu in later versions of macOS, including macOS Mojave.

To access it, place the cursor where you want to insert the degree symbol, and then go to Edit> Special characters (or Edit> Emoji and characters ) in the menu bar. Alternatively, you can use the Control-Command-Space keyboard shortcut on your Mac keyboard.

A new window will appear displaying a series of special characters, characters and, for Yosemite, Emoji. Instead of manually viewing hundreds of available characters, simply enter “degree” in the search field to display the available degree characters.

As you can see in the screenshot above (based on OS X Yosemite 10.10.2), you have a choice of three options for degree symbols: one for degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius and a simple degree symbol. Just double-click on the character you want to paste it at the current location of the mouse cursor or trackpad. Frequently used symbols and symbols will be displayed under the search box, which will save you a little time in the future.

Keyboard Shortcut Key

The Special Characters menu described above gives you hundreds of useful characters, characters, and emoticons to choose from, but if you just need a simple degree symbol, this is not the fastest option. Instead, let’s use a keyboard shortcut.

While typing, hover over the place where you want to insert the degree symbol. Then use one of the following keyboard shortcuts:

Shift-Option-8: This key combination inserts the correct degree symbol (i.e., 72 °);
Option-K: This key combination inserts a small degree symbol, very similar to the actual degree symbol, but smaller (i.e., 72˚)

We are not sure if there is any significant difference between the symbols of large and small degree, when they are used in meteorological or mathematical contexts, but using any of them will most likely help you with this (see Note below). It should be noted that when using the special character menu approach described in the section above, a larger character is inserted.

How To Find The IPhone Degree Symbol On The IOS Virtual Keyboard

When Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone, he lauded the device’s virtual keyboard as superior to then-prevalent physical keyboards thanks to its ability to dynamically change based on the needs of software. But just because the iPhone’s virtual keyboard is flexible, it doesn’t mean that certain symbols aren’t hard to find.
Once such example is the degree symbol, which is particularly relevant considering the crazy state of weather in recent months. While some apps, especially weather and math-based apps, put the degree symbol front and center, the standard iPhone keyboard layout hides it without much indication of where to find it.
To find the iPhone degree symbol, launch any app that brings up the virtual keyboard. Tap on the 123 modifier to bring up the numeric and symbols keyboard and tap and hold on the 0 (zero). After a brief delay, a pop-up will appear allowing you to choose the degree symbol. While continuing to hold, simply slide your finger or thumb over to the degree symbol until it’s highlighted in blue. Release to insert the symbol at your cursor’s location.
Note that while our screenshot demonstrates this feature in iOS 7, the degree symbol can be found via the same method on all supported versions of iOS and on all iDevices, including the iPad and iPod touch.

How to insert a degree symbol in Windows 10

As a Windows user, you may have noticed that many of the characters a user may need are not on the keyboard.One such symbol is a degree symbol . Many engineers or teachers may need a degree symbol at different points in time. Today we will look at how to use it in Microsoft Word in Windows 10.

Enter the degree symbol in Windows 10

It is worth noting that there are no major changes on the computer, so the level of risk is almost negligible, and you can continue it without any hesitation.

There are many ways to add a degree symbol in Windows 10. Some of these are:

  1. Using character cards.
  2. Using the character insert function in Microsoft Word.
  3. Create custom keyboard shortcuts in Microsoft Word.
  4. Use default keyboard shortcuts.
  5. Using third-party software.

1] Using a character map
